OMNIUM GATHERUM Guitarist Says New Keyboardist Is 'Energetic As A Monkey'
October 5, 2005Guitarist Markus Vanhalla of the Finnish death metallers OMNIUM GATHERUM has issued the following update:
"OMNIUM GATHERUM is doing only two gigs at the end of this year, as we have to take a pause in composing material for the new album. These gigs are both Finnish indoor festivals — Rocklinna Metal Fest in November and Räntämetalli Icehall Metal Festival in December. This will be — by the way — OMNIUM GATHERUM's Icehall gig debut. Looking forward to that indeed! The festival highlights of the year were really the Party.San Open Air in Bad Berka, Germany, where we shared the same stage with our teenage (and nowadays, of course!) heroes CANNIBAL CORPSE, ENTOMBED and NAPALM DEATH. Also, the Jalometalli, Dark River Festival, Tuska after-party and Curium Metal Fest were great gigs for us here in Finland this summer! Lots of sweat, headbanging, loud crowds, party time, boozing and metaaaaal!
"We have also a new keyboard player in the OMNIUM GATHERUM crew: his name is Aapo Koivisto and he is energetic as a monkey on stage! A very great and welcomed spice to our camp! He has the right attitude towards keyboards in metal: 'Why would you need keyboards in a death metal band as there are no keys on the 'Slaughter of the Soul' album by AT THE GATES?' Haha! So there aren't going to be any symphony orchestras or massive dark metal synths on the new OMNIUM GATHERUM album, but only little tasteful synth arrangements on the bottom for the atmosphere.
"Our new OMNIUM GATHERUM webpage is also on the move and should be online in a week or two. At the time when you´re waiting new OMNIUM GATHERUM stuff to come, I think new OPETH, new EXODUS and new NEVERMORE are good CDs to satisfy your needs before our new album, haha! (That was a joke...) Cheers!"
OMNIUM GATHERUM's latest album "Years in Waste", was released in the U.S. in March via Nuclear Blast Records. The follow-up to 2003's "Spirits and August Light" was recorded at Sonic Pump studios in Helsinki, Finland with producer Nino Laurenne and engineer Teemu Aalto.
